Short Attention Records has marked the 50th installment of its mix series with a previously recorded teenage tape from Detroit producer Omar S. The recording also coincides with the Mexican label’s tenth anniversary.
Rather than commissioning a new session, the label selected an archival recording made during Omar S’s teenage years, long before the establishment of FXHE Records and his international recognition.
Originally recorded on a Yamaha MD4 and later transferred to VCR tape, the mix draws from early house influences, Chicago classics, and Detroit electronic music. Its unpolished format offers a direct view into the sounds that helped shape the producer’s musical development.
The collaboration emerged during a 2026 visit to Detroit, when Short Attention Records founders Hector Ram and Ricky Ramirez met Omar S at his record store and party.
Founded in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, in 2016, Short Attention Records has spent a decade releasing underground house and techno on vinyl and digital formats. Its ongoing mix series also operates as a physical archive, with handmade CDs distributed free of charge. Over the years, copies have reached record stores and underground communities in Detroit, Chicago, Amsterdam, New York, Pittsburgh, Marseille, Los Angeles, Mexico City, and Berlin.
For its 50th edition, the label has produced a special anniversary CD featuring Omar S’s teenage recording. Physical copies will be available exclusively through the artist’s store with purchases of FXHE products. The CD itself remains free, continuing the label’s approach to physical distribution.
